Ask me how to write a post apocalyptic dark fantasy novel and I’d probably stare at you blankly and shrug my shoulders. But ask me how to write a story about a frightened and troubled young woman? I could tell you. If you ask me how to write a story about a man whose love for a woman spans time and space, and I can do that too. Tell me you want to know how to write a story filled with action and fear, sorrow, hope and a bevy of interesting and unusual characters, I’m your girl. Tell me to throw in some bad guys, good guys, and ambiguous guys and I’ll take care of it. But asking me how to write a post apocalyptic dark fantasy novel is like asking me to build a staircase to the moon.
Daughter of Gods and Shadows is my first foray into the world of fantasy. It took me four years and six complete and total rewrites to find this story. There was no straight line getting from point A to B. My writing process for this project took a lot of twists and turns. I stumbled and fell and gave up, then got up, and started over. If I had to do it over again, would I? Hell yes!
